Spartak Moscow Coach Explains Why Chelsea Loanee Moses Played Out Of Position Vs Rotor
Published: November 29, 2020
Spartak Moscow have caught up with Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League table following their 2-0 win over FC Rotor Volgograd on Sunday evening.
With Brazilian left-back Ayrton Lucas unavailable for selection due to a suspension for accumulated bookings, manager Domenico Tedesco responded by deploying Chelsea loanee Victor Moses as a left wing-back.
The former Nigeria international was an out-and-out winger before he was converted into a right wing-back by manager Antonio Conte during Chelsea's last title winning season.
Since Moses's loan move to Spartak, he has continued to play as a right wing-back, a position he occupied when he reunited with Conte at Inter Milan for the second half of last season.
Explaining how he arrived at the decision for Moses to replace Ayrton at left wing-back, Tedesco was quoted as saying by Sport Express : "We tried several options, and in the end we came to this decision - Moses is on the left, and Zobnin is on the right.
"Including talked with the players - Roman and Victor spoke in favor of such an arrangement.
"We entered the penalty area a lot from the flanks, used the zones. They created moments - all that remained was to score."
Moses went the distance for the second consecutive match in the Russian Premier League in the win against Rotor.
