Sanusi Clears The Ball Off The Line To Help Porto Reach UCL Last 16 After Draw Vs Man City
Published: December 01, 2020
Zaidu Sanusi was on show at the Estádio do Dragão as Portuguese champions Porto qualified for the last sixteen of the UEFA Champions League following their goalless draw with Manchester City on Tuesday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
In a 3-5-2 formation, the Nigeria international operated as a left wing-back and put in a solid ninety minute shift.
With a point earned and ten points accumulated, Porto are guaranteed to finish second in Group C before their trip to Olympiakos next Wednesday.
Manchester City had plenty of chances to break the deadlock but couldn't get the breakthrough to make it five wins out of five, while Sanusi and his teammates were happy to play for a draw.
The Citizens thought they had taken the lead through Gabriel Jesus nine minutes from time but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.
In the 37th minute, Sanusi reacted smartly to stop a Raheem Sterling shot from finding the net by clearing the ball off the line with goalkeeper Marchesín stranded.
The 23-year-old has started all the five matches contested by Porto in this season's Champions League.
