Anthony Nwakaeme Back On The Goal Trail As Trabzonspor Beat Fatih Karagumruk
Published: January 03, 2021
Former Super Eagles invitee Anthony Nwakaeme ended a five-game goal drought as Trabzonspor defeated Fatih Karagumruk 2-1 in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday afternoon.
Trabzonspor were in need of a lift heading into the matchday 16 fixture having lost to Galatasaray in their last game of 2020.
A minute into the second half, Nwakaeme blasted the ball into the net from close range to open the scoring, Jure Balkovec restored parity before Caleb Ekuban scored the match-winner following a counter attack.
The Nigerian striker had not scored in the league since bagging a brace in a 4-3 loss to Kasimpasa on October 30 before the clash against Fatih Karagumruk.
For the fourth game in a row, Nwakaeme put in a full shift having fully recovered from a thigh muscle strain that kept him sidelined for around two weeks.
Trabzonspor are sitting seventh in the standings with 23 points ahead of their next game with Göztepe on Wednesday, January 6.
