'I'm Still A Liverpool Player' - Awoniyi Says His Main Goal Is To Play For Premier League Champions
Published: January 13, 2021
Taiwo Awoniyi has been in great form for Union Berlin, contributing to seven goals (5 goals, 2 assists) in his last eight matches in the German Bundesliga and helping the capital outfit climb to fifth in the standings.
Since his celebrated move to Premier League giants Liverpool in the summer of 2015, the former Nigeria U23 international has been frustrated in his attempts to play for the first team of the Reds due to missing paperwork.
Awoniyi has been farmed out on loan to six different clubs namely FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron, Gent, Mainz 05 and Union Berlin.
The 2013 U17 World Cup winner says his main goal is the play in the English Premier League for Liverpool, provided he is granted a work permit.
"For me I am still a Liverpool player, presently I belong to Union Berlin until the end of the season and after that we'll see what happens again," Awoniyi said to TVC News.
"It has always been my dream to play in England and to play for Liverpool and I keep on dreaming but we never know what will happen in the future.
"The most important thing is to concentrate on the league and we'll see what happens".

Awoniyi has played for all of Nigeria's youth teams, making appearances and scoring in the 2013 U17 and 2015 U20 World Cups, but has not been capped at senior level.
