Celtic And Rangers Go Head-To-Head For 2013 U17 World Cup-Winning Striker
Published: January 13, 2021
Glasgow rivals Celtic and Rangers are being linked with a move for 2013 U17 World-Cup winning striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
According to 90min.com, the two Scottish Premiership giants are ready to compete for the signature of the former Nigeria U23 international.
Awoniyi has been on the books of Premier League champions Liverpool for six years but has yet to make his debut for any of their teams because he has been unable to secure a work permit.
Liverpool are mulling whether or not to part company with the attacker who is valued in the region of five million pounds.
The 23-year-old is having an outstanding season at high-flying Union Berlin with a goal involvement of eight in fourteen matches across all competitions.
Given his form in the Bundesliga, a league Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr closely monitors due to his connection with Bayern Munich, a maiden Super Eagles call-up for Awoniyi could be on the horizon.
Awoniyi previously spent time on loan at FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron, Gent and Mainz before joining Union Berlin last summer.
