First EPL Squad Involvement For Man Utd-Reared Striker Odubeko As West Ham Beat Burnley
Published: January 16, 2021
Former Manchester United wonderkid Mipo Odubeko was named in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time in his career as West Ham United defeated Burnley 1-0 at the London Stadium on Saturday evening.
West Ham first-team manager David Moyes was planning to hand Odubeko his professional debut when they faced Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup in September, only for the teenage attacker to suffer a training ground injury before the game.
Having recovered from the injury kept him on the sidelines for four months, Moyes named Odubeko in his matchday squad against Stockport County and he came off the bench in the closing minutes of the FA Cup third round game five days ago.
Though the 18-year-old was a non-playing substitute against the Clarets today, rubbing shoulders and training with the first team stars would aid his development.
Signed from Manchester United in October 2019, Odubeko scored on his U18 Premier League, Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy debuts for West Ham youth teams.
Michail Antonio scored the only goal of the game that separated the two teams in the ninth minute.
With 29 points from eighteen games, West Ham, who are yet to concede a goal in their last four matches in all competitions, are within touching distance of the top four.
