Etete Finds The Net; Eight Other Nigeria-Eligible Players Feature As Arsenal, Tottenham Play Out Draw
Published: January 29, 2021
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw in a Premier League 2 meeting on Friday afternoon, with as many as nine Nigeria-eligible players on parade at Hotspur Way Training Center.
Joshua Oluwayemi, defender Tobi Omole and striker Kion Etete started for the home team, Joseph Olowu, Ryan Alebiosu, Tim Akinola and Folarin Balogun were all in the Gunners starting XI, while Mazeed Ogungbo and Daniel Oyegoke came off the bench in the second half.
Ben Cottrell broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, firing in from inside the area following a superbly taken free-kick.
In-form striker Etete took his tally to five goals in his last seven appearances in the division when he stuck out a leg to steer a low shot home in the 33rd minute.
The 19-year-old found the back of the net in three consecutive matches against Manchester United, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, before opening his account in 2021 against Brighton & Hove on January 15.
Goalkeeper Oluwayemi was alert to prevent Balogun from netting the winning goal as he was quick off the line to clear the danger eight minutes from time.
It was a hotly-contested derby; Balogun, Alebiosu and Akinola were among the nine players shown yellow cards during the match.
