Arsenal Name Twelve Nigeria-Eligible Players In Updated Premier League Squad
Published: February 06, 2021
Arsenal have submitted their updated squad list to the Premier League following the close of the winter transfer market.
Twelve players eligible to represent the Nigerian national teams have been included on the roster.
They are goalkeepers Arthur Okonkwo and Ovie Ejeheri, defenders Ryan Alebiosu, Mazeed Ogungbo, Tolaji Bola, Zachariah Awe and Daniel Oyegoke, midfielders Tim Akinola and Miguel Azeez, strikers Folarin Balogun, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
The aforementioned players have been registered as U21 players (contract and scholars).
For the sake of clarity, U21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad, and for the 2020-21 campaign U21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 1999.
None of the players of Nigerian descent have made their debuts in the Premier League but majority of them have been invited to train with the Gunners first team.
Manager Mikel Arteta has taken both Okonkwo and Bola to Premier League games as the extra player in case of injuries to players included in the matchday squad.
