Balogun fit enough to make bench, Azeez returns from injury as Arsenal, Southampton B play out draw
Published: March 05, 2021
Balogun was included in Arsenal's matchday squad as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Southampton B in a Premier League 2 match on Friday afternoon, but the striker was only fit enough to make the bench.
The England youth international of Nigerian descent sat out the loss to Manchester City U23 on February 19 due to injury and was omitted from the traveling party to Liverpool eight days later after failing a fitness test.
There was more positive news on the fitness of Miguel Azeez with the central midfielder going the full ninety against Southampton after fully recovering from injury.
Before the trip to the south coast, Azeez had missed five straight games in the Premier League 2 because he was on the mend.
Nikolaj Moller gave Arsenal the lead from the spot on 10 minutes, Kido Taylor-Hart tapped into an open net to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute but a second half brace from Will Ferry earned a point for Southampton B.
Arsenal's Ryan Alebiosu, Tim Akinola and Daniel Oyegoke, and Southampton's David Agbontohoma, Kazeem Olaigbe and Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo were all in action in today's clash at Snows Stadium (Totton, Hampshire).
