Almeria's Sadiq, Racing Genk's Onuachu score again for European clubs
Published: March 08, 2021Lanky duo Umar Sadiq and Paul Onuachu were on target for the second game running to help Almeria and Racing Genk register wins in the LaLiga SmartBank and Belgian First Division A respectively on Sunday night.
At the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, Sadiq gave Almeria the lead when he blasted the ball past Girona goalkeeper Juan Carlos after a through ball from Rodríguez and the goal was eventually awarded following a VAR review.
His 72nd minute strike meant that he has been involved in an impressive 29 goals (22 goals, 7 assists) this season for both Partizan Belgrade, where he started the season, and Almeria.
At the Luminus Arena, Racing Genk defeated Ike Ugbo's Cercle Brugge 2-0 with Onuachu opening the scoring in the ninth minute.
The number 18 smashed home a header from a free-kick floated into the box by Theo Bongonda, and in doing so he took his tally to 26 goals in all competitions.
Ahead of his squad announcement in the coming days, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has namechecked Onuachu and Sadiq among the strikers in contention to be called up for this month's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin and Lesotho.
