Kanu delivers verdict after Arsenal's 2-1 win against his favourite opponents in England Tottenham
Published: March 14, 2021
Legendary Nigeria and Gunners striker Nwankwo Kanu took to social media to deliver his verdict in the wake of Arsenal's 2-1 win over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening.
Manager Mikel Arteta dropped his influential captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the starting lineup due to disciplinary problems, making the win more impressive.
Argentina attacking midfielder Erik Lamela came off the bench to open the scoring with a ridiculous rabona effort in the 33rd minute but Martin Odegaard equalised when he turned home a Kieran Tierney cross just before half-time.
A penalty converted by Alexandre Lacazette in the 64th minute won the game for the Gunners.
Kanu participated in eight north London derbies during his five-year association with Arsenal, winning five, drawing two and losing one match, and got on the scoresheet once.
Statistically, Tottenham Hotspur were Kanu's favourite opponents in his career abroad, with the 1996 Olympics gold medalist scoring five goals (four in the colours of West Brom and Portsmouth) against the Lilywhites, more than any other team.
"LONDON IS RED @arsenalcome on you Gunners 💪💪💪 #coyg @premierleague," the former Arsenal number 25 posted on Twitter, accompanied by a video of himself and his wife Amarachi Kanu celebrating the win.Â
Arsenal moved to within five points of the European places after the win against Tottenham Hotspur.
