Red-hot Crotone striker Simy names Arsenal legend Kanu as his idol, reacts to Genoa transfer link
Published: April 09, 2021
Crotone striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo has named Nigeria and Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu as his idol.
Simy is in the best form of his career in the Serie A, scoring in five consecutive matches to take his tally to fifteen for the season in the league alone.
The lanky striker had nothing but praise for Kanu, saying that he won trophies at his various clubs including the Champions League, UEFA Cup, Premier League, FA Cup and Eredivisie.
When asked to reveal the striker he's inspired by, Simy told Tuttomercatoweb.com : "Kanu, my old idol. He has won wherever he has played. Ajax, Arsenal, Inter, Portsmouth.
"For me Kanu is everything: it is my point of reference, my inspiration. After the illness he had - when he was at Inter - and which he overcame, he returned to win with Arsenal and it is a special thing."
With Crotone doomed to relegation, Simy has been linked with a move in the summer and Genoa are among his suitors in Italy.
Reacting to the speculation, the Nigerian said : "It's not something that interests me, I'm a Crotone player and I'm very proud of that.
"I've been here for five years, from the first moment I felt at home and I can't think of anything else.
"I have a contract with Crotone, I am calm and I am very happy to be part of this club".
