Almeria target Villarreal star as replacement for Bayern Munich, Sevilla-linked striker Sadiq
Published: April 15, 2021
Spanish Segunda División side Almeria are preparing for life without their leading scorer in 2020-2021, Umar Sadiq.
Indications suggest that the former U23 Nigeria international won't be a player of The Rojiblancos whether or not they are promoted to the top-tier of Spanish football.
According to Diario de Almería via Madrid-based Spanish newspaper La Razon, Almeria are eyeing a move for Villarreal youngster álex Baena as a replacement for Sadiq.
The 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist is on the radar of German champions Bayern Munich as well as Sevilla.
Sadiq, who joined Almeria in a €5 million deal from Partizan Belgrade last October, has scored 15 goals and contributed five assists in 30 matches in the Segunda Division this term.
The 24-year-old is Almeria's top scorer in all competitions with 17 goals and is third in the Segunda División scoring chart, behind Gijon's Đurđević (21 goals) and Espanyol's Raúl de Tomás (20 goals).
Sevilla are thought to be in pole position to sign Sadiq because of Monchi's good relationship with Almeria and the Nigerian.
