Edozie on target as Manchester City thrash Manchester United 3-0 in Premier League 2
Published: April 17, 2021
Manchester City have edged closer to the Premier League 2 title after thrashing neighbors Manchester United 3-0 at the Academy Stadium on Friday evening.
Manager Enzo Maresca named Samuel Edozie in the starting lineup while Shola Shoretire started for Manchester United, a day after he was an unused substitute against Granada in the Europa League.
In the 14th minute, Edozie broke the deadlock when he tapped into an empty net from close range after the ball was rolled across by Romeo Lavia.
Two second half goals from Cole Palmer gave the Citizens a comprehensive win over the Red Devils.
City's first change of the evening saw Edozie make way for another player of Nigerian descent in Felix Nmecha after an hour.
While Edozie, a winger by trade, has scored five goals in all competitions for Manchester City youth teams this season, attacking midfielder Nmecha, who is on the periphery of the first-team, has 8 goals in nineteen appearances.
Manchester City can be crowned Premier League 2 champions if Blackburn Rovers and Tottenham Hotspur fail to win their next game.
