Napoli striker Osimhen highlighted as one of the top 5 talents in Europe after brace vs Spezia
Published: May 08, 2021
Victor Osimhen has reached double digits in terms of goals following his brace in Napoli's 4-1 rout of Spezia in an Italian Serie A clash at the Stadio Alberto Picco (La Spezia) on Saturday afternoon.
This is the second straight season that the Nigeria international will finish the season with at least ten goals in the league, having netted thirteen for Lille in 2019-2020.
Midway through the first half, Osimhen sprinted all the way from midfield, racing past a Spezia player and slotted past goalkeeper Provedel after he was released by a superb pass from Zielinski.
Gennaro Gattuso's men had ended the game as a contest by the end of the first half with their most expensive acquisition in history making it 3-0.
Osimhen broke the offside trap and volleyed the ball home following a free-kick from Lorenzo Insigne in the 44th minute.
Eleven minutes from time, the 2015 U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner generously rolled the ball for Lozano to wrap up the scoring, and the goal was awarded after a VAR check.
Sports data analytics firm OPTA took to social media to highlight that only Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland is younger than Osimhen among the top-5 European Leagues players with 10 or more goals scored in both the last two campaigns (2019/20 and 2020/21).
PSG's Kylian Mbappe, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Inter Milan's Lautaro MartĂnez complete the top five talents.
