Crotone chief quizzed on if Torino are interested in signing Nigeria's all-time top scorer in Serie A
Published: May 27, 2021Crotone sporting director Beppe Ursino has confirmed that several clubs are interested in signing Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo in the summer transfer window.
The lanky striker had a banner season, scoring 20 goals in the Italian top-flight and only Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo (29), Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku (24), Atalanta's Luis Muriel (22) and Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic (21) outscored the Nigeria international in the recently concluded campaign.
Simy became Nigeria's all-time top scorer in the Italian top-flight when he netted a brace against Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma in March, surpassing the previous mark held by ex-Inter Milan wonderkid Obafemi Martins.
With Crotone's demotion to the Serie B, they are resigned to losing their top scorer but will try to squeeze as much money out of the clubs interested in the Nigerian.
Newly promoted Salernitana , Lazio , Fiorentina , Sampdoria , Genoa and Monza have been credited with an interest in Simy and there are also French and Belgian clubs monitoring his situation.
Asked by Torinogranata if Torino are among clubs interested in Simy, Ursino replied : "Simy is on the market because he is in great demand.
"We haven't talked about anything with Torino yet".
The 29-year-old Simy has played nonstop at Crotone since the summer of 2016 and his contract expires in June 2022.
