Leeds United set to beat Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs to signing of Watford academy star Debayo
Published: June 15, 2021According to the well informed Rising Ballers, Leeds United are on the verge of announcing the signing of highly-rated Watford U16s defender James Debayo.
Debayo had attracted interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Southampton before opting for Leeds United.
Brighton & Hove and Tottenham Hotspur also explored ways to sign the teenager without success.
The aforementioned clubs would be disappointed to miss out on the services of Debayo as Premier League clubs are banned from signing foreign players under the age of eighteen post-Brexit and have now set their sights on the top young talents in England.
Debayo, who is eligible for Nigeria through his parents, was selected to train with England U15 team during the 2019-2020 season.
He is expected to represent Leeds United in the U18 Premier League North in the forthcoming season.
James is the younger brother of former Chelsea schoolboy Josh Debayo, who trained with the Golden Eaglets before their trip to the
United Arab Emirates for the 2013 U17 World Cup.
