Turkish club Goztepe working on deal to sign Super Eagles invitee
Published: June 19, 2021Turkish Super Lig club Göztepe are working on a deal to sign Super Eagles invitee Vincent Onovo, according to reports.
Sports daily Fanatik claims that Onovo is expected to arrive in Izmir in the coming days to finalize the switch.
Predominantly a defensive midfielder who can be deployed as an emergency center-back, Onovo trained with the Super Eagles in Austria this month and was a non-playing substitute in the goalless draw against Cameroon.
The 25-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with Hungarian NB1 outfit Ujpest, with whom he won the Magyar Kupa last season.
Goztepe are in the market for a defensive midfielder this summer to replace Nigeria international Anderson Esiti who has returned to parent club PAOK following the end of his loan spell.
If Onovo's transfer goes through, he won't have problems adapting to life in Turkey as two of his former teammates at Ujpest in the shape of ex-Flying Eagles star Obinna Nwobodo and Dženan Bureković are currently on the books of Goztepe.
In addition, 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning striker Brown Ideye plays for Göz Göz.
