Anglo-Nigerian youngster demands N705m per season to sign new deal with Arsenal
Published: June 23, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that English Premier League club Arsenal are continuing negotiations with Nigerian youngster Arthur Okonkwo over a new contract ahead of the start of pre-season preparations.
The north London club confirmed earlier this month that Okonkwo has been retained for the 2021-2022 campaign provided he accepts their offer of a new contract.
The main stumbling block to the Gunners reaching an agreement with the goalkeeper is that he is demanding a 'lot of money'.
A product of the Hale End Academy, Okonkwo wants his new deal with Arsenal to earn him up to one million pounds sterling (approximately N705 million in Nigerian currency) per season.
One of the most promising players in the Arsenal academy, manager Mikel Arteta invited Okonkwo to train with the first team on countless occasions last season and named him in the matchday squad for Europa League matches versus Olympiakos and Villarreal (twice).
The Anglo-Nigerian was fourth choice in the pecking order of goalkeepers at the Emirates Stadium, behind Bernd Leno, Mathew Ryan and Runar Alex Runarsson, as at last season.
