No debut for ex-Nigeria U23 invitee as Celtic open pre-season with win vs Sheffield Wednesday
Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Celtic kicked off pre-season with a 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday afternoon.

There was no unofficial debut for former Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide , six days after the young center-back completed his move to The Hoops from Sheffield Wednesday.

Urhoghide has traveled with the Celtic squad for their training camp in Wales and participated in their first workout on Tuesday morning.

Four players of Nigerian descent were on parade at Dragon Park, Newport, with Republic of Ireland U21 international Jonathan Afolabi entering the game as a substitute after the break, while former Flying Eagles invitees Korede Adedoyin and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Josh Dawodu came off the bench in the 46th minute for the English team.

In the 90-minute friendly played over three 30-minute periods, Josh Windass opened the scoring in the third minute, before Albian Ajeti restored parity for the Scottish team on 31 minutes.

Lagos-born winger Adedoyin could have given the Owls the lead in the second period but his low drive missed the target and Dele-Bashiru also came close to finding the net.

Goals from Owen Moffat and Odsonne Edouard in the 55th and 89th minute respectively secured a win for The Bhoys in Ange Postecoglou's first game as coach.

Celtic face Charlton Athletic in their next friendly on July 10, while Sheffield Wednesday take on Chester at the Deva Stadium.
