Nigerian midfielder signs new contract at Manchester United
Published: July 13, 2021
English Premier League giants Manchester United are set to confirm their new intake of academy scholars for the 2021-2022 season in the coming days.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that promising Nigerian midfielder Maximilano Oyedele will be among the new scholars at the Red Devils, having signed a two-year deal.
All U17 players are required to sign scholarship forms with their respective clubs before signing their first professional contracts on or after their seventeenth birthday.
It was a foregone conclusion that Oyedele would be getting a scholarship as he already made his full debut in the U18 Premier League as a schoolboy last season against Derby County in February before appearances against Leeds United and Middlesbrough.
The 2004-born player made the U18s matchday squad for the first time against Manchester City in February but was not utilized off the bench.
Oyedele will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of another teenager of Nigerian descent, Shola Shoretire who stepped up from the youth team ranks to make his Premier League debut in the second half of last season.
