FC Midtjylland's Super Eagles star unlikely to face Celtic in Champions League qualifying round
Published: July 14, 2021Everything is pointing to the fact that FC Midtjylland manager Bo Henriksen will not be able to count on Nigeria international Frank Onyeka when his Danish club face Scottish Premiership side Glasgow Celtic in the second qualifying round of the Champions League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Wolves battle Celtic at Celtic Park on Tuesday, July 20, before hosting the Scots in the return leg at the MCH Arena on July 28.
Onyeka has still not shown up for pre-season training at FC Midtjylland, putting his participation in their upcoming competitive matches against Odense Boldklub and Celtic in doubt.
Even if the defensive midfielder reports for training today, it would take a miracle for him to be physically ready for both games.
The FC Ebedei product has been strongly linked with a summer move to Premier League new boys Brentford and the deal is expected to go through subject to him being granted a work permit.
Of his 123 appearances for FC Midtjylland, seventeen were in European competitions including six in the Champions League qualifiers.
The 23-year-old Onyeka scored four goals and registered four assists in 41 matches for FC Midtjylland in 2020-2021.
