Portsmouth ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, Derby in race to sign former Reading U18 captain
Published: July 15, 2021Portsmouth have reportedly emerged as frontrunners to sign former Reading U18 skipper Akin Odimayo.
According to Football League World, Portsmouth are set to beat Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County to the signing of the Anglo-Nigerian who played for Swindon Town last season.
Odimayo, a free agent, was offered fresh terms to remain at the Robins beyond June 30, 2021 but it appears the central defender has turned down the contract extension as he is now training at Pompey ahead of a potential switch this summer.
Swindon Town are due a compensation from his next club as he was offered a fresh deal and is under the age of 24.
Odimayo impressed in his maiden season at Swindon Town, making 33
appearances in all competitions and contributing two assists from his
defensive position.
He played on the same Reading U23 team as Super Eagles target Michael Olise before ending his association with the Royals.
