Premier League new boys Brentford make Onyeka the club's most expensive signing ever
Published: July 21, 2021
As expected, Premier League new boys Brentford have broken their transfer record to sign Nigeria international Frank Onyeka.
Brentford and Midtjylland have close ties as they are both owned by Englishman Matthew Benham but this is the first transfer between the two clubs involving a fee, with Henrik Dalsgaard and Emiliano Marcondes arriving as free agents.
According to Danish tabloid BT, Midtjylland agreed to shred their agreement with Onyeka in exchange for ten million euros (approximately N5.85 billion in Nigerian currency), plus additional bonuses.
The FC Ebedei product had been contracted to The Wolves until June 2024 prior to inking a five-year deal with The Bees.
Transfermarkt has reported that Onyeka has replaced Alexander Sörloth as the record departure at his former employers and at Brentford the defensive midfielder is the club's most expensive signing.
Onyeka's current market value is €6m, meaning Brentford overpaid for him by €4m, working with his Transfermarkt valuation.
He was directly involved in 27 goals (17 goals, 10 assists) in 123 appearances for Midtjylland.
