Left-footed Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder trialing at Sheffield Wednesday
Published: July 22, 2021
Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore is running the rule over
Nigerian youngster Tariq Uwakwe with a view to a swoop in the summer
transfer window.
The left-footed Chelsea central
midfielder featured as a trialist for Sheffield Wednesday in their 2-0
loss to Semi Ajayi's West Brom on Tuesday, July 20, entering the game as
a substitute.
According to Yorkshire Post,
Moore will make a decision on whether to offer Uwakwe and another
trialist of Nigerian descent Sylvester Jasper a contract after the
friendly against Wrexham on Saturday.
Uwakwe
enjoyed a taste of first team football during a season-long loan spell
at League One club Accrington Stanley, for whom he made 21 appearances
in all competitions, playing mostly as a wing-back.
The 21-year-old can also be deployed as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder and left midfielder.
Uwakwe has been on the books of Chelsea for fourteen years having joined the academy as an U9.
Former
Flying Eagles invitees Korede Adedoyin and Fisayo Dele-Basiru,
ex-Nigeria U23 invitee Dominic Iorfa, Josh Dawodu, Olamide Shodipo and
Dennis Adeniran play for Sheffield Wednesday's first team.
