Two assists in two games : Man Utd rising star Shoretire catching the eye in pre-season
Published: July 26, 2021
Talented youngster of Nigerian descent Shola Shoretire is proving
his worth in pre-season with Manchester United first team, with a goal
involvement in each of the two games played so far.
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjær is once again taking a look at the promising
striker with several of his first teamers yet to report for club duties
due to their international commitments at the European Championship,
Copa America and Olympic Games.
Against Derby County, Shoretire assisted Facundo Pellistri to score United's second goal, showing his
intelligence to recognize that the Uruguayan was onside before picking
him out with a through ball.
And in the
next friendly against a very descent Championship side in Queens Park
Rangers, the England youth international showed he has an eye for a pass
and knows how to read a game when he found Anthony Elanga, whose
well-struck shot left the Hoops goalkeeper completely helpless.
The
17-year-old announced himself last season, winning the prestigious
Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year after scoring 10 goals in the
Premier League 2 and making debuts off the bench in the Premier League
and Europa League.
From his earliest days
with the Manchester United academy, Shoretire has been earmarked as a
precocious talent, playing up the age groups.
The
Anglo-Nigerian made his competitive debut for the U18s while still a
schoolboy and broke into the U23 squad at the age of sixteen.
