Leicester City defender reacts after attending Nigeria training camp in Austria
Published: July 27, 2021Leicester City defender Ashleigh Plumptre has taken to social media to express her happiness after attending an eight-day Nigeria training camp in Vosendorf, Austria ahead of the Aisha Buhari Cup.
The Leicester-born Plumptre has earned 30 caps for England at U15, U17, U19 and U23 levels but qualifies to represent the Super Falcons through her paternal grandfather.
Plumptre has aspirations to play international football for Nigeria over her country of birth, England at senior level.
The 23-year-old made her unofficial debut for the nine-time African champions in a friendly against Slovenian side NK Olimpija Ljubljana and held her own though she gave away a penalty in the 70th minute after colliding with an opponent.
Writing on Instagram, Plumptre stated : "So grateful to have spent the past week in Austria with the Nigeria Women’s National Team (learning all things football, culture and how not to dance".
The Nigeria Football Federation can legally poach the dual-eligible Plumptre because she has not played competitive matches for the Three Lionesses.
