Olowu, Hoogewerf start; Shoretire scores again as Man Utd U23s hit four past Owls
Published: August 10, 2021
Manchester United youth team coaches continue to run the rule over Joseph Olowu before making a decision on whether or not to offer the free agent a contract.
The Arsenal Academy product helped United defeat Sheffield Wednesday in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, playing for 79 minutes in a 4-2 win at Carrington.
Olowu played his first trial game for the Red Devils last Friday, a 2-2 draw with the first team of non-league club Kidderminster Harriers.
The 21-year-old wasn't the only Nigeria-eligible player involved against the Owls in today's friendly as Netherlands youth international Dillon Hoogewerf was also named in the starting eleven while Shola Shoretire came on at half-time.
The visitors took the lead through Lee Gregory but it was level at the break after Zidane Iqbal found the net three minutes before half-time.
In the second half, Gregory got on the scoresheet again before goals from D'Mani Mellor, Shoretire and Hannibal secured a win for Neil Wood's side.
Shoretire, who was on target against Kidderminster Harriers, made it 3-1 when he converted a penalty won by the lively Tunisia midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.
2019 Nigeria U20 invitee Korede Adedoyin featured for Sheffield Wednesday and hit the woodwork in the closing minutes.
