EFL wrap : Chelsea academy products Solanke & Afolayan, ex-Arsenal youngster Aneke score
Published: August 21, 2021
Four players of Nigerian descent were on target for their respective clubs in Football League matches that took place on Saturday, August 21.
At the Vitality Stadium, Dominic Solanke's brace was not enough as Bournemouth were forced to a 2-2 draw by Marvin Ekpiteta's Blackpool.
The Chelsea academy product opened the scoring with a fine low finish in the sixth minute before doubling the Cherries advantage when he planted a header past the Blackpool goalkeeper at minute 19.
Remaining with the Championship, it has taken ex-Arsenal youngster Chuks Aneke less than 145 minutes in all competitions to open his account for Birmingham City.
In his fourth game for the Blues, the summer signing came off the bench in the 61st minute as Birmingham City thrashed Luton Town 5-0 at Kenilworth Road.
Two minutes from time, Aneke completed the scoring when he scrambled home after his teammate's shot was parried.
Bolton Wanderers came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Oxford United in a League One match at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Former Chelsea schoolboy Oladapo Afolayan had a significant influence on the outcome of the game, equalising for the Trotters with a fine effort from outside the box in the 45th minute.
In League Two, 2000-born attacking midfielder Abraham Odoh helped Rochdale claim their first win of the season - a 3-1 success against Kion Etete's Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium.
In the 95th minute, Odoh fired into the top corner to complete the scoring after racing onto a through ball.
