Chelsea confirm squad numbers for five Nigerian players ahead of EFL Trophy clash
Published: August 24, 2021Through their official website, Chelsea have confirmed the squad numbers the players will be wearing in this season's EFL Trophy ahead of their opening game against the senior team of League Two club Exeter City on Tuesday evening, with five Nigeria-eligible teenagers registered for the competition.
2019 Nigeria U17 invitee Prince Adegoke, Flying Eagles hopeful Bryan Fiabema, Richard Olise, Derrick Abu and Tudor Mendel-Idowu have been allocated squad numbers.
Striker Fiabema has been assigned number 49, fullback Abu number 57 while goalkeeper Adegoke, left-footed striker Mendel-Idowu and wing-back Olise will be wearing the number 70, 77 and 78 respectively.
A sixth player of Nigerian descent Faustino Anjorin has not been listed as he has already been assigned a first team squad number, 27.
Last season, Adegoke wore the number 72 while Fiabema has also switched shirt numbers having worn number 64 in his first full season at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from Norwegian club Tromso.
The aforementioned teenagers will wear the same shirt numbers should they feature for the first team in 2021-2022.
Apart from Anjorin and Fiabema, the four other players of Nigerian descent have not made their debuts in the Papa John's Trophy.
