Breaking : Doncaster Rovers sign former Arsenal defender of Nigerian descent, jersey no. revealed
Published: September 10, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that EFL League One club Doncaster Rovers will confirm the signing of Nigerian-born central defender Joseph Olowu in the coming days, if not hours.
The Reds had to head into the free agency market to bolster their defensive ranks after Cameron John suffered a fracture to his back.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report with certainty that Olowu has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at Keepmoat Stadium until at least January 2022 following a successful trial that lasted for about a week.
Olowu also tried his luck at Manchester United, playing in trial games against Kidderminster Harriers and Sheffield Wednesday, plus Premier League 2 matches against Chelsea and Manchester City, but nothing came out of it.
He had been on the lookout for a new employer following his release by Arsenal when he came off contract on June 30, 2021.
Although Olowu has no Football League experience, the former Gunners youth team skipper faced the first teams of Coventry City, Northampton Town and Cambridge United in the Papa John's Trophy in the past.
He will be playing with the number 5 on the back of his jersey at Doncaster Rovers, who have in their ranks one-time Nigeria Football Federation target and ex-Arsenal schoolboy Fejiri Okenabirhie.
