First Premier League squad involvement for Tottenham's Omole after joining from Arsenal in 2020
Published: September 11, 2021
Versatile Nigeria-eligible central defender Tobi Omole was a shock inclusion in Tottenham Hotspur's 22-man Premier League squad announced on Friday, September 10.
It was a move no one saw coming simply because the Anglo-Nigerian is no longer classed as a U21 player as he was born December 1999.
But the surprise does not end there, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo naming Omole in the matchday squad for the lunchtime kickoff against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
This is the first time in Omole's career that he has been selected in a Premier League matchday squad, and it is coming exactly 343 days after joining Tottenham Hotspur from north London rivals Arsenal.
The left-footed youngster, more of a center back than a left-back and defensive midfielder, will be wearing the number 49 on the back of his jersey if he enters the game as a substitute.
Crystal Palace's 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise has also been named in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time in his career after recovering from a back issue, but starts on the bench just like Omole, while Eberechi Eze misses out entirely.
Goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi was registered in Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League squad as one of the U21 players but was not selected for the trip to The Eagles.
