'This award is not so significant' - CSKA dazzler Ejuke rues draw against Arsenal Tula
Published: September 12, 2021
Nigeria international Chidera Ejuke was named Man of the Match after starring in CSKA Moscow's 2-2 draw with Arsenal Tula in a Russian Premier League match on Sunday afternoon.
Unarguably Nigeria's star performer in their most recent international against Cape Verde, the former Liverpool trialist picked up where he left off with another outstanding display following his return from Super Eagles duty.
The MOTM award meant nothing to Ejuke as CSKA Moscow failed to secure all three points despite opening and closing the scoring during the game.
Igor Diveev and Fedor Chalov's goals were cancelled out by Evgeniy Markov and the result left the Muscovites seven points behind table-toppers Zenit St. Petersburg after only seven rounds.
Speaking shortly after the game to Match Premier TV channel (via bobsoccer), Ejuke said : "One point is better than not taking anything. We went with the desire to take three points.
"It's great that I was recognized as the best player. But this is not enough. The whole team plays. This award is not so significant, since we could not win."
Ejuke has been involved in three goals (2 goals, 1 assist) in his last five appearances for the Army Men in 2021-2022.
