Napoli's two-goal hero Osimhen gives his reaction to draw against Leicester City
Published: September 16, 2021Victor Osimhen put in a man-of-the-match performance as Napoli fought back from two goals down to register a 2-2 draw in the opening match of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
Ayoze Perez's first goal of the season gave the Foxes the lead in the ninth minute, Harvey Barnes doubled the advantage with a powerful drive at minute 64, before Osimhen netted twice to earn a point for Napoli.
According to statistics from Whoscored, the Napoli number 9 had six shots, one less than the whole of the Leicester City players combined, and his brace tonight meant that he has been involved in nine goals (7 goals, 2 assists) in his last ten appearances for the Italian side.
Osimhen pulled a goal back when he deftly lobbed the ball over Schmeichel in the 69th minute, before climbing highest to power an unstoppable header past the Danish goalkeeper four minutes from time.
The Nigeria international was delighted after his two goals helped Napoli come away with a point.
In quotes relayed by Napoli's official website, Osimhen said post-match : "I am happy for the double and for the positive result.
"It was important to have started the journey in the Europa League well. I want to give everything for this shirt and I want to continue on this path to prove my worth and give my contribution to the team.
"I hope to have no more injuries because we have a strong group and I know we can achieve something important this season".
