Brentford coach praises Super Eagles star for his defensive work against Wolves
Published: September 20, 2021Frank Onyeka was among the players singled out for praise by Brentford manager Thomas Frank in the wake of his side's 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League match at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
The Bees boss was pleased with the defensive work from his team to register a clean sheet which laid the foundations for the win.
With the scoreboard reading 2-0 thanks to goals from Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo, Onyeka entered the game as a substitute as a replacement for Sergi Canós.
Of the eleven shots registered by the Wolverhampton Wanderers players, none was on target.
"It says a lot about the players and also those coming off bench in Zanka, Mads Roerslev and Frank Onyeka who were ready to step in, that Wolves had no shots on target," Thomas Frank said at the post-match press conference.
"We have that defensive mentality where we want to press and defend as high as possible away from our goal, but we can also defend box when needed and that’s a massive thing we need to continue with.
"We defended very well with bodies on the line and made the pitch smaller with our willingness to run and work hard".
With the exception of the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa, Onyeka has tasted action in all the matches played by Brentford in their debut season in the Premier League.
