Nigeria-eligible striker on target as Chelsea U23s edge Liverpool in 7-goal thriller
Published: September 24, 2021
Chelsea got the better of Liverpool in a seven-goal Premier League 2 thriller at Kingsmeadow on Friday night.
After missing the 6-1 loss to Arsenal last weekend, Norwegian-born Nigerian striker Bryan Fiabema was named in Chelsea's starting line-up for the visit of the Reds.
Liverpool took the lead in the sixth minute through Owen Beck, who surged his way through the Chelsea defence and sent a powerful shot past Sharman-Lowe.
Four minutes before half-time, Fiabema, with a simple tap in, equalised for the Blues after George Nunn fed the ball into the six-yard box.
The home team found themselves 3-1 down after 54 minutes as a result of a brace from Mateusz Musialowski.
Chelsea mounted a comeback, pulling one back through Nunn, Joe Haigh equalised before Lewis Hall got on the scoresheet in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage-time to seal a 4-3 win for the Blues.
Fiabema's strike against Liverpool was his second Premier League 2 goal of the season having scored against West Ham United back in August.
The 18-year-old was on target against League Two side Exeter City in the EFL Trophy last month.
