Left-footed attacker of Nigerian descent makes his competitive debut for Chelsea Youth
Talented left-footed attack-minded player of Nigerian descent, Tudor Mendel-Idowu has finally made his competitive debut for Chelsea youth teams after coming off the bench as the U18s defeated Reading 3-2 in the Premier League Cup on Saturday afternoon.

Of the four players of Nigerian descent registered by Chelsea for this season's Premier League, Mendel-Idowu was the only Anglo-Nigerian yet to taste action in the new season prior to the trip to Berkshire.

Goalkeeper Prince Adegoke, defenders Richard Olise and Derrick Abu have been all been given minutes this term.

With sixteen minutes remaining, Mendel-Idowu replaced Tyrique George for his first appearance for Chelsea U18s.

Born in 2005 and a student of Eton College, he signed scholarship forms with the Blues in July 2021.

Nigerian striker Princewill Ehibhatioman gave the Royals the lead when he found the corner with a low finish in the 26th minute and Reading doubled their lead through Greaver in the 44th minute.

In the second half, Edwin Andersson, Malik Mothersille and Louis Flower got on the scoresheet to put the visitors 3-2 up.

2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Adegoke and Olise, who provided the assist for Chelsea's second goal, put in a full shift against Reading.
