Breaking : Ex-Man Utd star Odion Ighalo not reversing his decision to quit Super Eagles
Published: October 26, 2021
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that former Manchester United star Odion Ighalo is not reversing his decision to retire from international football.
Ighalo called time on his international career with the national teams spanning ten years after the conclusion of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he won the top sorer award with five goals.
There were speculations in the local press that the Al-Shabab striker was set to make a shock return to the Super Eagles ahead of the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations following talks with Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick, but those reports are wide of the mark.
It is correct that Pinnick had a telephone conversation with Ighalo about the player reversing his retirement decision, but the 2019 AFCON Golden Boot winner was non-committal, or in other words, his response was neither positive nor negative.
This website can report with certainty that Ighalo's decision to retire from international football still stands.
The 32-year-old has been in red-hot form since the season started, scoring 8 goals in nine appearances in the Saudi Arabian Professional League.
