'He's had more minutes' - Villarreal boss pleased with Chukwueze's return from injury
Published: October 27, 2021
Villarreal manager Unai Emery says he is pleased with Samuel Chukwueze's return from a long-term injury.
The Nigeria national teamer made his long awaited return from injury in a La Liga match against Osasuna on October 17, after five months on the sidelines.
Prior to Chukwueze's return to action, he hadn't featured for the Yellow Submarine since the Europa League semifinal second leg clash against Arsenal and even required surgery to solve the injury problem.
Aiming to build up his match fitness, Emery gave the Nigerian minutes against Young Boys in the Champions League, Athletic Bilbao and most recently against Cadiz, with all the four appearances coming off the bench.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after Villarreal's 3-3 draw with Cadiz, Emery said : "Those are positive things we found in the game.
"For Aurier to go one step further, for Samu to return after the important injury. In Bilbao it cost him a little more and now he has had more minutes. We are finding Samu's qualities. "
Chukwueze opened his account for the season against Young Boys exactly a week ago and came close to adding to that tally when he hit the woodwork in the 66th minute of last night's clash vs Cadiz.
