Rohr picks 5 World Cup winners; ex-Chelsea, Arsenal stars; Leicester ace in Dream XI
Published: November 25, 2021
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has selected his Dream XI, with three players he has worked with in the national team Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses and Wilfred Ndidi making the cut.
In the Dream Team published by Girondins33, the Franco-German football tactician has chosen five World Cup winners including Franz Beckenbauer (1974), former Super Eagles coach Berti Vogts (1974), Zinedine Zidane (1998), Christophe Dugarry (1998) and Bixente Lizarazu (1998).
In the star-studded line-up, former Bordeaux goalkeeper Dominique Dropsy starts in goal with a four-man defence consisting of Franz Beckenbauer (CB), ex-Bordeaux ace Léonard Specht (CB), Vogts (RB) and Lizarazu (LB).
Rohr has set up his team in his most preferred formation, 4-2-3-1, with Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi and Bordeaux legend René Girard as the holding midfielders.
He has picked ex-Chelsea star Victor Moses, Zinedine Zidane and Arsenal product Alex Iwobi as his three attacking midfielders, with the Frenchman deployed as the playmaker.
The attack is where the surprise lies as the Nigeria manager has gone for Christophe Dugarry, whom he coached at Bordeaux.
Rohr's Dream Team : Dropsy; Vogts, Beckenbauer, Specht, Lizaraz; Ndidi, Girard; Moses, Zidane, Iwobi; Dugarry
