The deal taking Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to Watford in January 2022 included a clause stipulating that Sparta Rotterdam would receive a maximum appearance bonus of 500,000 euros (approximately N232million in Nigerian currency), according to reports.
RTV Rijnmod writes on its website that Sparta Rotterdam agreed to the sale of Okoye to Watford in exchange for five million euros, contrary to the seven million euros fee being bandied about relating to the upcoming transfer.
General manager of Sparta, Manfred Laros clarified on Monday that the Rotterdam club will receive only five million euros without disclosing the performance-related add-ons.
The Dutch public broadcaster added that Sparta Rotterdam will receive 250,000 euros if Okoye makes forty top-flight appearances for Watford and will bank an extra 250,000 euros if he plays seventy games in the Premier League and FA Cup combined.
Before reporting for international duty this month, the 22-year-old signed a five-and-a-half-year contract at Watford with effect from
January 1, 2022 following a successful medical examination in England.
Okoye played 28 Eredivisie matches in his maiden season at Sparta Rotterdam, keeping ten clean sheets and this time around he taken part in thirteen league matches.
