AC Milan considering move for Italian-Nigerian CB Okoli as cover for Simon Kjaer
Published: December 02, 2021
Italian super-club AC Milan have Nigeria-eligible youngster Caleb Okoli on their radar ahead of the reopening of the transfer window, according to reports.
The Rossoneri are in the market for a central defender to provide cover for the injured Simon Kjaer, who was stretchered off the pitch in the opening minutes of Milan's 3-0 win at Genoa on Wednesday.
Calciomercato claims that the 2001-born Okoli is on the list of central defenders targeted by AC Milan.
Other candidates being considered by AC Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are Torino's Bremer, Monaco's Benoit Badiashile and Lens' Facundo Medina.
Atalanta-owned Okoli was loaned out to Serie B club Cremonese for the whole of the 2021-2022 season and it is unclear if the Serie A side negotiated a recall clause into the deal taking him to the Grigiorossi.
The Italian-Nigerian center-half has yet to make his debut in the Serie A but was an unused substitute five times.
Okoli, an Italy U21 international, could partner another player of Nigerian descent Fikayo Tomori in central defence if his move to AC Milan materializes.
