'Could be an outstanding loan signing' - Troy Deeney pinpoints two characteristics of Shoretire
Published: January 01, 2022
Watford legend Troy Deeney has named his top six most exciting prospects in English football with two teenagers of Nigerian descent making the cut.
Manchester United starlet Shola Shoretire and Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka have been picked along with Jobe Bellingham (Birmingham City), Ben Johnson (West Ham), Cole Palmer (Manchester City) and Cameron Archer (Aston Villa).
Excitement has been building at Manchester United around Shoretire in the last couple of years with the winger excelling for the youth teams.
The England U19 international was the youngest player to feature in the UEFA Youth League when he made his debut in the competition aged 14 years and 314 days, before the record was broken by Borussia Dortmund's Youssoufa Moukoko and current holder Sverre Halseth Nypan (FC Midtjylland).
Deeney has pinpointed two characteristics of the Anglo-Nigerian he believes would make him an outstanding loan signing for clubs.
Speaking to the The Sun UK, Deeney said : "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rated him highly and gave him three first-team appearances last term, just after he had turned 17.
"Ralf Rangnick gave him another run-out in the Champions League against Young Boys but Shoretire could really make a name for himself with a Championship loan move.
"When a United kid comes on loan to your club, they always seem well-grounded human beings and confident footballers without being arrogant. I hear Shoretire has the same characteristics."
