Robinson claims Newcastle would be taking a massive risk by signing ex-Man Utd star
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has claimed that Newcastle United would be taking a massive risk by signing ex-Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo.

The Magpies want to bolster their ranks with a striker in the January transfer window and the Al Shabab center forward is one of the players being considered for the role.

Newcastle United are in the market for a striker with Callum Wilson currently on the sidelines following the calf injury he suffered against Manchester United on December 27.

With a goal involvement of twenty (16 goals, 4 assists) in 67 Premier League appearances, Robinson has labelled Ighalo an unreliable striker.

Ighalo is leading the goalscoring charts in the Saudi Arabian Professional Football League with 11 goals in fifteen appearances.

Assessing Ighalo's credentials, Robinson told Football Insider : "I think he’d be a massive risk. He is unreliable and I don’t think Newcastle are in a position where they can take risks.

"Financially, they are in a position where they can go and get a top quality striker who is less of a risk than he is.

"It’s definitely a position they need to address though given that Wilson is out. To stay up they’ll need a striker to be scoring regularly.

"I just don’t think Ighalo is the player they are looking for."

The 32-year-old Ighalo, 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner, has a contract with Al Shabab until June 30, 2023.
