'Technically excellent' - Rohr waxes lyrical about Super Eagles star with brilliant left foot
Published: January 22, 2022
Gernot Rohr has showered praise on Joe Aribo ahead of Nigeria's upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of sixteen clash with north African giants Tunisia, branding the Glasgow Rangers midfielder a 'technically excellent' player.
Having made appearances in friendlies against Ukraine and Brazil in which he found the net, the London-born Aribo became cap-tied to the Nigeria Football Federation when he started for the Super Eagles in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Republic of Benin in November 2019.
Rohr has revealed that he convinced Aribo to pledge his international future to the Super Eagles over the Three Lions after holding talks with the player and his dad.
Blessed with defensive and offensive attributes, the Rangers ace has been asked to play as a box-to-box midfielder in the ongoing tournament in Cameroon and was in the right place at the right time to assist Kelechi Iheanacho net the game-winning goal against Egypt.
"On form at the right time. He is a player who tends to stay in the shadows but he is technically excellent and can make the difference with his left foot," Rohr said to AFP via Yahoo News.
"He is a box-to-box player who gets forward from deep. He likes to beat his man and go for goal".
On the back of Aribo's excellent form for Rangers before he reported for Nigeria duty, rumours were doing the rounds that several Premier League clubs were interested in his signature.
