Official : Ex-Nigeria U23 & Super Eagles invitee becomes first 'Englishman' to join Rukh Lviv
Published: January 30, 2022
Ukrainian Premier League club FC Rukh Lviv have announced with pride the signing of 2019 Super Eagles invitee Viv Solomon-Otabor, branding him the 'first Englishman' in the history of FC Rukh Lviv'.
The Birmingham City academy product last wore the colours of St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.
Solomon-Otabor enjoyed loan spells at Oxford City, Bolton Wanderers, Blackpool and Portsmouth during his seven-year association with Birmingham City, for whom he made 40 appearances and scored two goals.
In the summer of 2019 he moved to CSKA Sofia, where he played 20 matches in all tournaments, scored a goal and gave 2 assists, before returning to England to join Wigan Athletic.
In his first words as a player of FC Rukh Lviv, Solomon-Otabor told the club's official website : "I learned about Rukh from my good friend from CSKA Sofia.
"I confess, I was skeptical at first about the offer to join Rukh, but later learned a lot about this project, consulted with my parents and finally decided to become a player of the Lviv club.
"For me it is an opportunity to play in one of the best championships in Europe. I already got acquainted with the team when I came here a week ago. Very nice guys here."
The 26-year-old Solomon-Otabor, who is close pals with AFCON 2021 stars Ola Aina and Joe Aribo, trained with the Nigerian U23 national team before their participation in the 2016 Olympic Games.
