Napoli striker Osimhen misses training but named in provisional matchday squad vs Barcelona
Published: February 16, 2022Victor Osimhen did not participate in Napoli training on Wednesday morning at the SSC Napoli Konami Training Centre before their trip to Spain, where they will face Barcelona in the Europa League knockout round playoff tie.
The medical bulletin published by the Blues on their official website revealed that he wasn't involved in training as a precaution after taking a knock to his knee.
Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has selected twenty-one players in the the traveling squad to Barcelona and Osimhen is part of the group, meaning he will be named in the matchday squad if he does not suffer a relapse in the pre-match warm up.
The Super Eagles striker is Napoli's main man in this season's Europa League, scoring four goals in just 168 minutes of action spread across three matches.
Osimhen found the net in each of his last three games in the group stage despite not starting two of them, averaging a goal every 42 minutes, which is the best rate of any player to have scored two or more goals in this season's Europa League.
If the 2015 U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner gets onto the Camp Nou pitch on Thursday night, it would be his first career appearance against Barcelona.
