England, Nigeria or USA? Arsenal loanee Balogun makes decision on international future
Published: March 04, 2022
Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun is reportedly leaning towards committing his international future at senior level to the United States of America, where he was born.
Football. London is reporting that the Hale End Academy product is expected to commit his long-term international future to the United States.
Balogun would be following in the footsteps of another Arsenal-reared youngster Yunus Musah who was born in New York City and was previously eligible to represent Ghana, England and Italy before pledging his future to the Americans.
The 20-year-old Balogun is eligible to wear the colours of Nigeria through his parents as well as England where he was raised.
Of the aforementioned countries, only Nigeria have not capped him as he has appeared for the United States and England youth teams.
Balogun has to request for a one-time change of association to play for the United States as he is provisionally cap-tied to the English Football Association having played competitive games for the Young Lions at U17 an U21 levels.
The Nigeria Football Federation missed out on the services of Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, while the likes of Miguel Azeez, Arthur Okonkwo and Zach Awe remain eligible for the three-time African champions as they have yet to make their senior debuts for England.
