Iwobi scores latest EPL goal since Bruno Fernandes' penalty for Man Utd in September 2020
Published: March 17, 2022
Everton left it late to claim all three points in their Premier League meeting with Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Thursday night after Alex Iwobi's stoppage time winner.
Against the Magpies, the Nigeria international made his first appearance for the Toffees in March 2022 after he was a non-playing substitute in three successive matches in all competitions.
Iwobi skipped past a challenge and exchanged passes with Dominic Calvert-Lewin before driving low into the bottom right corner for the game winning goal.
According to the BBC, at 98 minutes and 19 seconds, Iwobi's goal was the latest Premier League goal scored since Bruno Fernandes' penalty for Manchester United vs Brighton in September 2020 (99:45).
Prior to the visit of Newcastle United, Iwobi had not scored at Goodison Park since he found the net against Wolverhampton Wanderers on September 1, 2019.
Five of his seven goals as an Everton player came in away matches against Wolves (2), Lincoln City, Fleetwood Town and Huddersfield Town.
Following their win over Newcastle United, the Toffees are three points above the bottom three in the Premier League table and have two games in hand over 18th placed Watford.
