Portuguese football tactician favorite to be appointed Nigeria coach after Godwin Enakhena reveal
Published: April 18, 2022Portuguese football tactician Jose Peseiro is the frontrunner to replace Gernot Rohr as the permanent Super Eagles coach, according to foremost Nigerian journalist Godwin Enakhena of Top Radio 90.9FM.
The Nigeria Football Federation are close to announcing a new coach for the senior national team after the disengagement of caretaker manager Augustine Eguavoen following his patchy record at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and 2022 World Cup playoff versus Ghana.
And Peseiro, who failed to agree terms with the Nigerian Federation before the AFCON, is one of the names being bandied around by the local press to reverse the fortunes of the Super Eagles.
Enakhena says the Portuguese has reached an agreement with the NFF and he will pay his two full time assistants, fitness trainer and match reader.
Peseiro will be assisted by homegrown coaches Salisu Yusuf, Finidi George and Abdallah, as well as goalkeeper trainer Ike Shorunmu and match analyst Eboboritse.
The 62-year-old will reportedly earn more than US$50,000.00 monthly, higher than what was paid to erstwhile coach Rohr.
He would be embarking on his third national team coaching adventure, having previously managed Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.
Peseiro previously spent time with Sporting CP, Panathinaikos, Porto, Al Ahly , amongst others at club level.
